Passengers: Richard, Kenneth & Gloria Moles

Today I call for our western launch site as we have “light and variable” in the forecast. There is no wind at the parking lot as we get the balloon ready to fly. We are up and I have the passengers get on board and one of them is “special”. This flight is to celebrate Kenneth’s 95th birthday with his wife and brother from San Francisco. We are off the Jan, lot and drift to the east as was expected. We move on across Wallace and into the farm area with a turn toward the river. It is slow and we hang around over the “bird mans” place then on to the ball fields. We don’t get to the river so we will keep our feet dry. I play with the winds and we start to head back to the church. I tell the passengers we may do the “undoable” and land back where we took off. I can’t remember the last time I “boxed” back to the launch site for landing. The gang hasn’t even moved the van since the launch about an hour ago. All I have to do is work us over the power lines and we will be “home”. I toss a line and we are on the asphalt. I am amazed that we really got back to the starting point. We get the balloon down and ready to pack. The passengers do the sit and we load up to head out for the picnic,
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

PASSENGER COMMENTS:
Kenneth: “This is a historical flight! Landing at the take off point and on my 93rd Birthday.”
Gloria: “Three cheers for Jim and his expertise! His day to do the ‘box’.”
Richard: “We had two miracles today. We landed at the same place we took off and you got me out of bed at 4:30 AM, it was worth it!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Jan, Sean, EriK
