Passengers: Erin Baker, Sarah Wylie, Robert Meyer, Susan Pollnow

Again Mother Nature is in a docile mood so the West Salem launch site is the choice. We had a lovely flight from here yesterday and the sunrises over Mt. Hood have been spectacular with the bright red sun, colored by all the smoke particulates from fires in central Oregon and some in British Columbia too. The “gang” gets to work on the balloon and soon we are up and I call for the passengers to climb on board. We are going to loose one of our “gang” soon as Susan is having to move to Redmond for her “regular” job this fall (school teacher) so I have her to join us today for a “payout” flight. We are off the parking lot and start a gentle drift to the northeast across Wallace Road and into the farm country. We head toward the gravelpit and right toward one of the several Osprey nests in the area. The chicks are still in the nest and are shy so we miss seeing them. We continue to the north with more push to the east and head toward North Park. Once over the river I get a little more swing to the north and we slip into the commercialarea of Keizer. We have spent the hour and I’m looking for a landing zone. I have the gang stage at the Elks Club then as I drop lower get a push south and east, miss that one. The next lot is behind the Eagles (fraternal day?), the winds have dropped off so I have the gang run across the street to an open building lot and that will be the spot to park today. Not the prettiest spot on Cherry Street but big enough for us. Being that we landed next to one of the “main drags” in Keizer we attract our share of “lookie-loos” . We get Starship in the bag and load up for the trip back to the park for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Erin: “This was just wonderful!”
Robert & Sarah: “Lots of fun! Thanks for getting our feet wet!”
Susan: “Thanks for another wonderful flight!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
