Passengers: Carly & Tom Neal

We have been down for a few days but have picked the best of the week today. I call for our Keizer site as I would love to fly over the ongoing “Home Makeover” project that has been happening here in Salem for the last week. They are building a small dorm on the Deaf/Blind School property to the south of this site and with luck and help form “Mother Nature” we might make it over the school and see the new “Green” building. We have a new “gang” member this morning, John a co-worker of Cecil’s down at Casey’s restaurant. We get the balloon out of the bag and pumped up and I call for the passengers to get on board. Cecil will join us for a little more burner time as we lift off the Park and head out at an easy pace to the south. The game plan is to find some steerage winds that will take us to the “project” that is down wind. Cecil scopes out the right winds with a left down low and a nice right up high. We work our way across Keizer waking up all the dogs, but with the sunrise later it is not all that bad. We drift past the Kroc Center to the east as we center up on our “target” for today. There is some new construction next to the school and I’m going to have to research it as we have used that area as an LZ form time to time over the years. We have a great approach to the school and will get some great shots as we drift slowly over the “project and all the folks on the ground wave and say “howdy” as we move past. We cross over Locust Street and start looking for an LZ as we have “accomplished” our mission for today. I spot Barrick Field which is North Highs baseball/soccer area and have the gang move there for the shot. As we drop lower for the set up the wind just dies off and we will not make it to Barrick so I call them back to Salem Clinic and we will use one of there many empty parking lots. The gang hits the back lot as we drop in over the trees toward the front door and a little yard. The gang is there and we drop a line so they can tow us past the trees and to the open lot. We borrow the “doctors” lot and get the balloon in the bag, loaded and head back to Keizer for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Carly: “Thank you so much for such a beautiful flight! Cecil you did a fabulous job as our pilot. This was an amazing experience!
Tom: “I have flown thousands of miles in aircraft of all sizes but this is the first lighter than air experience…amazing!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
