Passengers: , Ed & Willow Quarry, Greg Dubberke, Anne Markusen

I had a day off yesterday and better have enjoyed it as we won’t see another for a week. I call for our friendly “airport” out north and I’m VERY happy I did. The winds forecast is at about 3 and the weather couldn’t be better, clear with no surface breeze at all. The guys get the balloon out and go to work as the passengers get a close look of the operation. We have a couple of passengers that are “special” guests of our crewmen in training, Cecil. He gives Willow a tour of the inside of the balloon, not a common occurrence. The balloon is full of cold air and Cecil brings Starship up. I take over and call for the passengers to climb on board. We drift off the field over the hops then toward the Knife River operation. I gain some altitude to check the upper winds and we get a beautiful view of the Mission Bottom farm country. We are moving at a nice pace and soon are in the Keizer area. Jan, my lead crew gal and hostess is running an event at Keizer Rapids Park and I’m thinking it would be a real “kick” to land there this morning. I can’t get a push to the west soon enough so I miss my first shot. We cross the river into West Salem so I have the gang move that direction. Ed lives in this area and just maybe we can get to his place. I drop a bit for the adjustment and it is not there so I call for the park as the LZ this morning. I call for the soccer field and the boys pull into the parking lot as we get there. We get the balloon down and ready to pack and then the passengers do the “sit” . We get loaded up and head back to Finney Lake for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Anne: “We planned this originally in November 2009 and boy was it worth the wait for such beautiful weather! Jim is a terrific Pilot and so knowledgeable!
Greg: “Definitely memorable! A smooth ride, it was awesome!
Ed: “Thanks for a great ride!”
Willow: “I had a great time!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
