Passengers: Katie Wilks, Verna Hills

It is ANOTHER birthday flight and each time this year it seems that they get higher, today it’s a 90th. We have had this trip on the books for some time and I’m sure that Verna has been looking forward to it too. The changing weather has shifted back to a summer type drift so I call for our Brooks site and should have a track to the south. The balloon is pumped up and I call for the passengers to climb on board. I have a light load so I put Jan in the basket for a little “crew payout” today. We are off to the south with a nice light breeze, much better than yesterday to be sure. We travel over the farm land for a bit and see that the ground is being prepared for winter, a sure sign of fall. We pass over my favorite “field of dreams” not in the middle of a corn field this one’s in the front yard. Past the field is a newer subdivision with some really nice homes. Some built more than they could afford, then others have a real “estate” . We have tried landing on this one several times but Mother Nature won’t let us on the grass. One day Dave will see us on his yard, I bet! I get a push to the east and it looks like we may get over the I-5 and that is not in the plan for me. I drop lower to look for a push west and do find it so we will keep on the “right” side of the freeway. I have spotted the LZ (landing zone) for this morning a nice empty field behind the Capitol Business Center building, next to I-5. We pass over the Keizer Station Mall and the gang is on the move to my preferred LZ. Verna makes a comment that her grandson works in the mall at the Pet Co store so here you are, an aerial of your shop thanks to Grandma! I have the track for the LZ and with a little help from Mother Nature and a hook to the left we clear the lines and the gang has us safely caught and on the grass. We get the balloon in the bag and the sit is done with help form the family. The passengers are to “skinny” to do much packing. We head on back to the Airport for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Katie: “Great ride and lots of fun! Thanks for making my Grandmas 90th Birthday, very smooth landing.”
Verna: “My very first balloon ride. It was a very special ride and the crew was very special.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
