Passengers: Jen Hotop & Ryan Johnson, Stephanie Edwards (Birthday Gal)

Today is looking great, with the showers drifting off, leaving some soggy ground and possible for. With the winds at calm I have picked the West Salem site and will see what Mother Nature has to say about fog on the river. As I drive to the launch site I’m happy to see nothing but patchy stuff and when I get to Westgate it is clear. There is the usual fog on the river but that is all. We have a beautiful sunrise as the gang gets to work on the balloon. We get the passengers checked in and Jen need to make a pit stop so we send her off into “traffic” to “git ur done”. I call for the passengers to board and we are off almost straight up and hang around the west side of Wallace Road for a bit. To the west it is clear with just some low clouds to the north, I’m glad I didn’t pick Keizer as they are full of fog. We have little movement as we stay in a tight pattern (see track) for over half the flight then the cover starts to thin and we get a push to the east and will cross the river into the industrial area off Front Street. I find the hole I’ve been looking for and we slip lower toward the LZ today an open lot next to ODOT’s signal division off Liberty. It will work fine as the “boots are there and no wind as we coast over the lines and I toss them a line. Not the prettiest field (ODOT needs to get out the mower) but we are down and get the pack up started. The “bag sit” is done and we get packed for the trip back west for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

PASSENGER COMMENTS:
Jen Hotop: “What a great experience! Great views & it has been the highlight of my Oregon Vacation! I’ve been waiting for my balloon adventure for weeks and it totally lived up to my expectations!”
Ryan Johnson: “This was awesome! Loved the experience and though Mother Nature wasn’t entirely cooperative it didn’t take away from the thrill!”
Stephanie Edwards: “Loved the ride. A little scary for this old lady (65th Birthday) but it was a lot of fun. Thanks to the crew, Pilot and especially Shirley for the Birthday present.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Al T., Jan, Will, Mike Alex (new guy)
