Passengers: Catherine Steffens, Ron Hunsaker, Kathy & David Wood

Today we have the Wood’s who have been bumped four times so far this season due to weather and Ron the “birthday boy” with Catherine. I have called for the Brooks site as the forecast is for WNW at 3/5 MPH. That will prove to be a big FIB! The gang gets to work on the balloon as the passengers get checked in. We get it stretched out. The air is pumped in and we are up and ready for the passengers to load in. We are off the field with a slight drift to the south, but nothing like was in the forecast of last night. We will be slow today over the farm country for most of the flight. We are barely getting off the launch site as the “gang” load up and hit the road. I go looking for some breeze and find none no mater what altitude I pick. Then out of the southwest toward Independence we get a visit from 3 RV-7’s that are probably heading out for the Saturday morning coffee fly-in over at Aurora Airport. We continue to cruse over the farm county, crossing over Bruce Chapin’s nut drying operation. The “gang” has more sit today than chase as the hour winds down and I look for a spot to land. I spot a dirt service road between a cherry orchard and next to another field that has a new orchard filled with wheat between the trees. These farmers waste no space in this rich “bottom land”. We get a tow (close to a ¼ mile) from behind the orchard, past a hop field and then out to 4th Ave. for the lay-down and pack up. We get the balloon in the bag and the “sit” is done in proper fashion. We get the loaded and have to make Will the “basket case” today as we head back to the airport for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Catherine: “I really enjoyed the flight”
Ron: “Thanks for making my 53rd Birthday extra special!”
Kathy: “Good Time!”
David: “A wonderful way to spend ‘doomsday’!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Will, Tim, Brett & Mike Today was above the “call” the tow out took 15 minutes, dogging trees and hop wires WELL DONE “GANG”!!!
