Passengers: Meredith O’Donnell, Jo Shuler

Well I am going to have a Birthday gal today and the forecast is for light winds. Again the weather man is a LIER!! They call for our Keizer site as the forecast is calm winds at 2MPH. When we get to City Hall the winds are as forecasted, the pi-ball tells the same lie. So the gang gets to work on the balloon, stretching out, and pumping up. The balloon is up and ready for passengers and we are off the park right on time. Once we get a bit of altitude we catch a drift to the east northeast at a faster pace than the pi-ball traveled. We are heading out over the Little League fields then on past Keizer Station where the Iris Festival activities are happening this weekend. There is a carnival, vendor booths one of which is Jan Cline our lead crew gal is working instead of “playing” with us this weekend. We cross over the parkway and I-5 into the farm country as the “gang” is on the road with us. I’m not at all a “happy” pilot as this is CROP country this time of year with very few LZ’s. We are moving at about 5/7 MPH so I will have to really pick & choose my track to find a spot to park today. The gang is “Jonnie on da spot” as I set up for a shot at a grass seed field owned by the Jensen family, and balloon friendly. Once I clear the tree line I notice a electric wind generator and it tells me that I have shifting winds with some turbulence. We have a skid into home plate landing with a couple of hops and the gang there to catch us. We get the balloon over to the road for the pack up and the “sit” is done. We load up the gear and head back to the park for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Meredith: “This was one of the most wonderful 80th Birthday and I shall never forget it. Thanks to Jim and the crew, Great Job!”
Jo: “Great fun, a once in a lifetime experience. Wonderful crew, great people!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
