Passengers: Alisa, Ed, Jalese, Kyla Walley

We have a forecast for winds out of the north this AM so I call for the Brooks area site today. We have a beautiful day as we are actually getting some “summer” kind of weather. We just got the gear out from the annual inspection shop so we have some “untangling” to do. We have a couple of young “sisters” today so Cecil takes them inside for a photo-op for the folks. We get the balloon standing and have all the Walley’s climb on in. We have loaded on the flag to fly below us today as we are on the “Holiday” weekend. Once I get some altitude I can start the “deploying” of the flag which always takes a moment or two as it operates much like a window blind and usually has a line or two that will hang up. With a bit of help from Alisa we get the flag in the FULL down position and the gang below radios that it looks great. We have very light winds and nothing going the direction that was forecast, so we head to the west instead of the south as promised. As we cross over Wheatland Road there is a pond that we cross over which gives us chance of a reflection shot off the water. It is farms and crops EVERYWHERE so I will earn the bucks today looking to find a workable LZ (landing zone). We have a great track and pass over a large (& old) Osprey nest with Mom & Dad guarding the newborns. We continue on toward Willamette Mission Park which is a workable LZ for us today. We are moving slowly so the gang have plenty of time to get set up for the catch. We have to cross over a large field, then over the slough to a tree line. We hit the road and the gang gives us a tow to a “wider” spot in the road for the lay down. We have very little traffic this time of morning into the park so we get the balloon bagged and ready to load in good time. Time to hit the road and head back to the airport for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
