We have a slight change in the weather today so I opt for a central launch site as we have a very light push from the SSW. The load today is the most “bodies” I’ve stuffed in this basket EVER! It is a special “memory maker” day to celebrate Linda’s birthday, her gift to her grandchildren. I have had hundreds of reasons for a balloon ride but I think of the couple of thousand I have done to date, this is the first time I’ve heard this specific one. We set up in the parking lot at the park and all the kids, five of them are full of questions as we put Starship together. We have the balloon up and I call for the “herd” of youngsters to climb on in and we are off at a gentle drift to the north as forecast. It is across a couple of soccer fields then into the softball fields and the kids spot a Osprey nest on one of the light poles on the diamond. I get us close enough to see “mother” is guarding the nest as we slip by. It is on to the beaver pond that has no beaver anymore but gives us a great “reflection” picture as we drift by heading toward the river. We cross the river over North Park and on into Keizer. I have the “gang” move down River Road for a bit then the track starts to settle in and I pick LZ (landing zone) for this morning. I think that I can get us to one of two schools just off the Parkway. It will be either Clagget Creek or Weddle for the spot today. As I get closer the lower winds are light and a bit “fussy” so I have to work them a bit as we slip down toward the playground in the back of Weddle School. I send down a rope so the gang can keep us off the play toys. We are on the asphalt and get the balloon deflated and ready to pack up. I’m so happy that it is a school as the kids have something to do as we pack up the gear and head back to Wallace and the “old boat” ramp for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Linda: “This was a great trip for my 65th Birthday with my 5 grandkids and husband.”
Justin & Jacob: ‘That was awesome!!”
Alexa & Anthony: “I had a great time riding in the balloon.”
Rylie: “Thank you very much.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
