Passengers: Virgie Lorenz, David Tucker, and Joy Lorenz

Again the weather liar’s lead me astray and I call the wrong launch site, but I fool them this time I switch at 5 AM instead of meeting at the first call then moving. Winds were forecast at 3 MPH, when my feet hit the floor at 3:30 they were 9 MPH at the Salem airport. We get together at the airport in Brooks and we are in a bit of a hole so it is calm there. The gang get the balloon up and ready to board and we are off the tarmac heading to the west. I have to climb a bit to find the push to the south that was forecast and find it at about 900 feet. We move out toward the gravel pit and into the farm country for the early part of the flight. We drift into Keizer and over Loren’s lots that we used a couple of weeks ago. We slip across the river at the Rapids Park and into West Salem for the final leg of the flight. The “gang” set up on Riverbend Road as I might make it into one of the fields close by but miss so they have to move on down toward the 1090 farm. I get there first so we so a “2 bump & a slid” landing in the VERY tall grass in the field. The surface is starting to kick up a bit so we will stay here and fight the grass for the lay down and pack up. We get the gear secured and head back to Finney Lake for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
