Passengers: Virgina, William and Karen Kase

I don’t need a reason to go fly, but this week the passengers have good ones. Yesterday it was a wedding in the air and today we are celebrating Bill’s 85th birthday. I again pick the Brooks site as the launch point with the winds forecast are out of the north. We get the balloon out and set up as the passengers look on. I call for the passengers to board as we are standing tall on the tarmac. I add the heat and we are off to the southwest at an easy pace. We skirt the edge of the Knife River operation as we head out into the bottoms and the lush farmland. Our speed today is about half of what we had on the last flight so we will not see any of the river today. I have the gang move onto Windsor Island Road as that is the area will be in after we cross Clear Lake. I’ve spotted the LZ (landing zone) for this morning a cleaned grass seed field owned by Doug Zielinski. I spot his truck at the sprinkler and give him a call to let him know we are “dropping in” to say hi! The gang get to the field as I set the shot and drive out to catch us. The boys help Virginia out as she is a bit short to climb out herself. Dr. T. does his impression of the “Nick” and we get the balloon tagged and bagged read for the trip back to the airport for the party.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Karen: “A wonderful way to celebrate my fathers 85th Birthday! The crew and Jim were excellent hosts – Perfect!
Virgina: “The pilot was very informative as to what we were flying over and knowledgeable.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
