Passengers: Lee, Saniye & Natalie Stevens, Joanne Santee, Chris Snodgrass

Today we have a family down from Alaska vacationing and two sisters, the winning bidders on a fund raising auction. I call for one of our Keizer sites and when we all get there the pi-ball tells me we need to move further north for more working room. The ceiling top is all over the place, raising and lowering every few minutes so I like the country much better today. We get the balloon filled and I call for the passengers to come on board. We drift down the runway to the south at an easy pace as the winds are nice and light. It is over the hops then onto the gravel pit where the train is waking up this morning. We continue on toward Brooklake Road and all the nurseries out there. The “gang” (all 2 of them) move up with us along side the daycare center as we cross a farmer working the field for a second crop this year. We cross over River Rd. and toward a possible early LZ at the baseball field parking lot. As I set the shot we miss by a couple hundred feet and will cross I-5 and look for a spot on the east side of the freeway today. I spot the next shot a small yard in front of an old house that was purchased by ODOT for a construction project years ago. I clear the trees to the north and the boys are there to catch us. We get the air out and the balloon tagged and bagged ready for the load up and trip back to the airport for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented. My thanks to Joanne for bringing along her “specialty” to our table, DELICIOUS!
