Passengers: Kathy & Gary Schottle

Today is a birthday present from Gary to his wife and her “wish come true”. We are again out to Brooks as our launch site this morning. The gang gets to work on the balloon as the sun is trying to burn through. We are pumped up and I call for the passengers to join me in the basket. With a little more heat we are off the tarmac and heading out to the south. It is over the wheat field then off to Knife River’s operation. We are drifting over the farm country for the first section of the flight. It is past the iris fields that are in the process of being harvested at this time. We drift into Keizer and I will have a chance to get our feet wet in the lake at Inland Shores. I have had to stay high (above 1600 feet) to keep the track to the southwest. Below that there is a very pronounced push off the west hills. I do drop for the lake shot and sure enough that push to the east is still there. The gang sees the turn from the parking lot and move out to catch up with our turn. We are into Keizer proper and the LZ’s are here but spotted all around the city. I miss several before I get a line on a open field owned by a “balloon friendly” builder, Larry Epping that will be the LZ this morning. I have to do two set-ups for the field as the push from the west is getting stronger. I get into the field the gang gets the rope to bring usdown on the old road in the middle of the field. We get the bag sit done and load up for the drive back to Finney Lake for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Kathy & Gary: “ A wish come true! Fun birthday gift, thanks for a wonderful time.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
