Passengers: Wendy & Ron Williams, Jan Sanford

Today we have another birthday gal, this time a VERY active eighty year old is our featured passenger. I call for the park in West Salem as today is Sunday and the church parking lot will be filled with folks. We meet in the parking lot and will use it for the set up today. We get the balloon pumped up and I call for the passengers to come on board. We are off the park and head slowly toward the river. I slip us over the trees and we play for a bit next to the old railroad bridge that has been converted to the “walking” path connecting parks on both sides of the river. We cross over the Gilbert House complex and then on into town for a bit. We move more to the east past the spire of the Methodist Church, then Willamette University and the new hospital complex. We are getting close to Mission street and the gang is staged in a car lot waiting to see just where we will drift to. I pick an open field next to the airport as the first LZ shot today. As I drop down for the set-up I get a shift to the south and will miss this shot. This change in track closes up a lot of LZ’s as we head for Webb Lake and Spinnaker Point and the gates are locked as this is Sunday. We head into the industrial area on 22nd Street and I spot a nice parking lot with an open gate. It is Umpqua ice cream distribution warehouse. I can’t find a push across the power lines so we will continue on down the street until I find one. The gang stage in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street and that will be the LZ for today. We move the balloon to a nice empty lot for the take down. We get the balloon bagged and all load up for the trip back to the park for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Wendy: “Thanks for a really great ride! This was a special way to celebrate Moms 80th B-Day.”
Ron: “That was awesome, you and your crew are the best!”
Jan: “The ride was awesome. What a way to celebrate an 80th birthday. Another thing checked off my bucket list.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
