Passengers: Michael & Mistie Slauson, Carl Below, Jordyn Craig

After a day off yesterday we are again out at our Brooks site with beautiful weather and TWO birthday’s today. The winds are calm on the surface with the pi-ball (a test balloon) telling me that we have a push to the south with some steerage both east and west. We get the balloon pumped up and after a bit time to add the heat and get it standing, ready for passengers. We are off the tarmac and drift slowly to the south right down the runway, not the normal track for us. After a bit we start to get the swing to the Knife River operation then I get lower and we adjust back to due south track for a bit. It is a beautiful morning again as we drift over the farm land at about 5 MPH toward the urban area of Keizer. He “gang” has caught up and waiting below to see which road to take into town. We pass by Clear Lake School which is good LZ (landing zone) for us but we have yet to get the hour in so we pass them by today. We move down River Road and I have spotted the LZ for this morning. A large grassy lot next to the wet lands by the Salem Hospital’s Keizer branch of the Urgent Care Center. We were in here just six days ago and will be again today. I set the shot up and the gang is on the grass ready for the catch. As I close in we get a slight push to the east so I use a little tree to “pinball” us into the very edge of the lot. We drop in and the boys have us with a pull of the drop line we are in the field. We get the balloon deflated as the passengers connect with the family that was on the chase with the gang. We get the balloon tagged then bagged and time to load up and head back to Brooks for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented. Now we have time to sit and enjoy the conversations about the beautiful morning, thanks for joining us today.

Carl: “Great ride!”
Jordyn: “Awesome!”
Michael: “Beautiful! Not scary.”
Mistie “What a gift, thanks!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Mike
