Passengers: Marfa Egoroff, Marfa Scheratski, Kirsten & Eliasar Quinones,

Today the winds have shifted and calmed down so we move to the west side of the river. We have a 10th Anniversary celebration with the Quinones’s and two gals from the Woodburn community of “Old Believers” a group of the Russian Orthodox Church. We get the balloon out and pumped up on the parking lot at the church and Cecil get the up “honors” as part of his ongoing Pilot training. I call for the passengers to come on board and we are off the lot with a beautiful red sunrise again today. The gang pack up for the run and I climb up looking for some kind of breeze. The forecast said light & variable and it is “spot” on today. We have little movement but we do get a light push to the south and west, not what I had anticipated. We slip over the ridge into the Rosemont area and then we loose what little drift we had. At least we get a look at the two new schools that will open this month, the middle school, Straub and the elementary Kalapooya. We drift over this little valley which is close to the river so I’m doing my best to keep us on the “right” side of the “R” word. We are not yet to the hour but I have few options and the school will be the LZ today. The “gang” moves in as I try to stay out of the trees and get a line to them. I try the BIG bag for a drop as we get pushed up the ridge and miss by 20 feet. So I have to drag the bag back up as we drift over the trees on the ridge and I spot a cul-de-sac that will be the 2nd shot today. We get down and the pack up is started, then the “bag sit” is done and we head back over the hill for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Kirsten: “What an awesome flight for our tenth Wedding Anniversary!”
Eliasar: “thank you for a great start to the day!”
Marfa Scheratski: “It was absolutely amazing trip. Thank you for a great adventure.”
Marfa Egoroff: “I had a wonderful first fight. The view was amazing and we had a great pilot!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Tim, Mike
