Passengers: Shawn Murray, Beverly Barr, Ryan Barr

It is truly fall flying as the surface winds have shifted to the south so I call for a parking lot off south Commercial as the launch site today. The boys get to work on the balloon and I get the heat added then I call for the passengers to get on board. We slip down the lot to the south with a gentle breeze. The sun breaks over Trader Joes as we pass by and over the grove of firs at the 12th street cut off. We hold the track between Commercial Street and 12th Street for the early part of the flight, almost due north passing over Morningside School then Gilmore field and South High and the new “turf” football field. We are getting a good look at a lot of our LZ’s (landing zone) on this track as we drift over lower Bush Park then Willamette U’s football-baseball complex and into the “new” Salem Hospital area that is now pretty well completed. We skirt past the Capitol Mall to the west as we are getting more of a left hook to the west as we get into downtown. I drop down a bit and get more of the west shove which puts us on the river for a few minutes and a chance to do some fish looking and a good reflection shot before we jump over the tree line into the berry fields. The gang meets us on the edge of the field and we set down on a “sleeping” grass seed field for the deflate and the pack up. We get the bag sit done and load up for the ride back to the park for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

PASSENGER COMMENTS:
Beverly: “What a great experience! Thoroughly enjoyed our trip and what a wonderful time!”
Ryan: “Awesome!”
Shawn: “Honestly I was terrified at first during the initial lift-off. Soon those feelings pass and the beauty of it all takes over.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Al T. and Tim
