Well today we are NOT in the air but on the ground helping to Celebrate the Keizer Iris Festival by joining in as “float” in there annual parade. The theme this year is “Celebrating History” and what is older in history that the Montgolfier brothers “first hot air balloon flight”? So that will be our FLOAT this year. This is a small town parade and always a lot of fun to take part in, that last time we did it (6 years ago) we flew the same morning and is was “slam & jam” to do both. This year we are doing it for Jan Cline (our lead crew gal that passed away last fall) as she wanted us to get back into the “festival” here in her home town. The staging area is HUGH (about ¾ of a mile, with 220 units?) and blocks off all of Lockhaven Ave. from River Road to Windsor Island Road.
Of course like every home town parade we have floats of all shapes and sizes, some VERY creative and some just trying to get the message out there. The one that really “tickle my fancy” are the ones that are small and usually get built or finished in the staging area, with kids usually adding the final touches. Of course you got to have cars in a local parade, really old ones some not so old to some of us and the showroom loaners for the Mayor and such. Some celebrities bring there own and always some “custom” rigs too.
But when you get down to where the rubber meets the road it is every one supporting the community in there own way and it’s the people that come to watch… that’s why we are all here.
We still went through 40+ galloons of propane and stayed on the GROUND!
Jan was right… a fun time was had by ALL!! We miss ya LOVE….
