Passengers: Mark & Erin Dettwyler

At the call in on Friday night I pick the south site and when we all meet at 5:30 the pi-ball (a test helium 15” balloon) shows us that most of the push here is from the west which will put us in farm country at the end of the hour so I move us to west Salem to the Church. I send up another pi-ball and I like what I see here, a lot more SSW push. We get the gear unloaded and the balloon stretched out; add the cold air and the heat and we are standing tall by 6 AM. I call for the passengers to board and we are off the lot heading northeast at about 3 MPH. We cross over some residential development with 3 new dig-ins, then over the Cemex operation where we get a fair reflection shot then over the river for a bit. We play a bit on the river but keep our feet dry as the water is moving faster than we are. It is up over the tree line and into Keizer I drop down for a wind check over Cummings School and it is a bit slower so I have the gang move toward McNary High as that is the last workable LZ before we hit the lake at Inland Shores then “no land” land. I call the shot for the baseball fields at the school and the gang moves into the complex. This school is a mess of gates so I land us unassisted as the gang comes around the corner after opening several gates. We get the balloon deflated the sit is done and we load up for the return trip and the picnic at Wallace Park.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

PASSENGER COMMENTS:
Mark & Erin: “What a way to celebrate our 10th Anniversary! The landing, we loved it a bit bumpy but exciting! Thank you all so much for such a MEMORABLE day!

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
