Passengers: Dana & Joan Abel, Kris Judish
Today we have another Birthday flight with Joan being the guest of honor. The winds have shifted (again) so we are back to the west side site for launch. The pi-ball shows us I have the right site and the boys get the balloon out and pumped up. I call for the passengers to “come on board” and we are off the lot and the adventure begins. We cross over Wallace Rd. then swing more south than expected and head toward the ball fields. With more of a west push we will head toward the river first then cross over downtown and the Capitol Mall area. We hang on the river for a bit then move on to the east and into downtown. We do get a shot at the Capitol Mall and I spot the first LZ (landing zone) shot, Bush School and we get pushed off as I set the shot. We now have a push to the south so the next shot will be Mission Mill and we miss that one too. Good thing we have lots of LZ’s in the south part of town as it looks like I will use a few today. The next one is South High and we slip by that one too, then on to Gilmore field, south’s baseball field. This one I make it into and we are back on the grass once again. We get the balloon back in the bag, load up and head back across the river for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
PASSENGER COMMENTS: Dana, Joan, Kris: “We loved the ride over the Willamette River and the Capitol building… great 70th Birthday celebration.”
A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Brad, Cecil
