Passengers: Nathan Lindley & Cherith Russel

We have been working with Nathan for a couple of weeks to get this flight off the ground and today is going to work. We had to pull his flight yesterday due to fog, but today is great (for fall flying). The pi-ball (test balloon) tells me we have the right site today so we get the gear out and the balloon prepared for flight. Once we are pumped up Cecil takes the “youngsters” inside for a peek, then I have them climb in the basket. We are off the parking lot and catch the drift to the north with a slight push from the west. I think that Mother Nature has been kind to us today. She gives us beautiful sunrise and we still have great tree color still on the ground too. At altitude we are moving right along (8/10 MPH) so we get to the river rather quickly. We move into Keizer and I drop altitude to get more push to the east. This flight was to be a proposal flight but because of the fog yesterday Nathan “popped” the question 24 hours ago. We are crossing River Road and head out to I-5 and I’m running out of LZ’s so I pick one off 99-W next to the freeway and the gang move in for the catch. The gang pulls us down and we are again safe on the ground, start the pack up and get the balloon back in the bag. We head back to West Salem and move to the park for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Nathan: “Thank you so much for an amazing flight and marvelous landing!”
Cherith: “Jim you are fantastic pilot, tour guide and it was a pleasure to fly with you. Thanks so much!”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
