Winds have fallen back into the “normal” summer pattern so I call for the Brooks site for today. We have a beautiful sunrise as we start getting the balloon out and ready to be filled with air. Once we are standing I call for the passengers to join me on board. We are off the field and get a look at our “host” as they and their guests for the holiday weekend watch the launch. We drift down the runway for a bit then over the pond at Knife River. Today is another “bucket” list REMOVAL flight, thank heavens for that movie and Marilyn is really having fun as are her friends. We cross Brooklake Rd. on our way into Keizer and spot Dave’s (see the ‘D’ in the drive?) house on the way. I get a slight push to the east over McNary golf course and head toward the wet lands on the way to our LZ for today, a Park just off Chemawa Rd. I drop low to slow a bit and after we pass over some “church going” lookie-loos I find a little tree to “brush” and that takes the speed off so we can get into the “gang” waiting for us at the park. I send down a line and we are caught and safely on the ground with almost NO bump. The boys take us to the “dry” parking lot for the lay down and pack up. We get the balloon in the bag and the passengers do the “sit” and we are on our way back to Brooks for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
PASSENGER COMMENTS: Marilyn: “This ride was on my bucket list but I’m NOT crossing it off because I plan on doing it again. What an experience, loved it all!
