Passengers: Stephanie Nephew & Lukas Sorensen

Winter flying requires that we all bundle up but the meeting times are later in the morning so we all get to sleep in a bit. Today is a betrothal flight so it’s just going to the 3 of us in the basket. In the winter months we meet at our favorite restaurant (Vic’s Spirits & Grill) as this is where we will have the post flight “picnic” and toast. The test balloon tells us that the winds are light and out of the north so we move to our Brooks site for the launch. We get the balloon unpacked and ready for flight as the passengers watch the show. We are standing and have the passenger join us in the basket and we are off the field heading to the south. We drift over Antique Powerland (the location of the 2015 NWBC). We continue almost due south as the gang hasjoined us in the chase rig. We cross I-5 and will enter into NE Salem where the hunt for an LZ landing zone will start. I check with Lukas as to when he wants to “pop” the question and he tells me he did that yesterday at the beach just in case Mother Nature didn’t cooperate this morning. The first LZ I spot is Parkdale Park and the gang sets up for the shot but at tree top I catch a push to the east and we miss it. I stay low and use the east push and I call for Yoshikai School as the next shot. The gang is in the lot as we slowly drift that way. The closer we get to the LZ I start to get a push from the south and it’s a good thing there is a big Park (Stephens-Yoshikai) as we finally get into it. We get the balloon deflated and the “sit” is done and we are on our way back to the restaurant for the toast & breakfast.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Tim, Molly
