Passengers: Mike & Nancy Duffin, Grant Boseberry, Ivonne & Michael Cline

We had the Clines on deck yesterday and the wind came up and we scratched the flight but today we add the Duffin’s and it all comes together. We meet at site C then after the pi-ball we again move north to the school parking lot. The “gang” haul’s out the balloon and get the pull out done then the cold air is added. Cecil puts in the heat and it’s time to add the passengers. Today we are taking along the son of crewman “Jerry”, Grant as he is home on leave from the Air Force. It’s a tight fit for today but we will make it work. We are off the lot at 7 AM and head out to the east for a bit over the school then hook back to the south with a slight push to the west. We drift over Keizer and then swing toward West Salem and will cross the river. We drift over the river toward the gravel pits and a chance to get our feet wet. I set the shot and we get hooked off the pond to the east and all we get today is a “mirror” shot. I’ve got several good LZ’s (landing zones) on track and when I drop low for the shot the breeze is light and all over the map. I miss a couple of LZ’s then the “gang” locates the LZ, an empty lot at Glen Creek & Wallace Rd. When I flew over the apartments on the way there a gal called out “need some help” and I said…always… see you across the street. Cory, who crews for our friends up in Newberg helped us bring down the balloon and our thanks too. We get Starship ready for the bag, in the bag and head back to Keizer for the celebration.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
