I call for the park on the river in Keizer and the test balloon confirms that this will work. We use the parking lot at the boat ramp and the gang along with some of Hash’s family gets the balloon out and starts the preparation. Cecil adds the heat for us and we load up the passengers and are off the lot. We drift off toward the river and will cross it twice today as track will carry us to the east and south toward Cordon Road. I miss a couple of good LZ’s like the State Fairgrounds and Salem Academy after we cross I-5. I spot an old orchard with all dead trees and set the shot for this field. We make it in at about 6 MPH and I use a dead tree stalk to hold us until the gang can come get us out. This is a really ugly field with knee high grass and crap every where. We get the balloon back in the bag and head back to the boat ramp for the picnic. It is Tedie & Marv’s 50th Anniversary celebration and my 73rd birthday so Aaron has made us all “special” custom made cakes to add to the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.
PASSENGER COMMENTS: Tedie: “A wonderful experience and a great time. I especially liked the landing.” Marv: “Okay but maybe a little more education about cutting trees might be good.” Kaitlyn: “The best part was hitting the tree. Hope to do this again some time soon…. Thank you.”
A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um) Cecil, Tim Aaron & his family
