Passengers: Michael Walker & Hang Tran, Nicole Carlson & Robert Volz

I have called for the park site in Keizer but when we toss out the test balloon the winds are out of the east and we don’t want to cross the river if we can help it. So we move east and can’t use the school as its soccer day so I pick an empty parking lot that we have landed in several times at Chemawa and River Rd. We get the balloon out and filled then Cecil takes the passengers in for a “look see”. We get the heat in and call for the passengers to come on board. We are up and on our way crossing River Road. I stay lowas there is a nice breeze to the east and that will help keep us on the right side of the river. Being low we have lots of “lookie loos” that come out to see the balloon. The gang stage at the park but it is to early to park so we continue on. The passengers are settling in as I go a bit higher for a track to Weddle School which would work for a LZ today. I have a track high for the field behind the school. I have to drop low for the shot and slip right past the field to the west and head over the Parkway and into Houck property. We are over the water for a bit then I stick it on the bank and we wait for the boys to tow us off this little spit and up top for the lay down. We get the balloon back in the bag and get the “sit” done. We get loaded up and head back to get the cars then move to the park at City Hall for the picnic.
I get the story started, the toast is done and the certificates are presented.

Hang & Michael: “Well gee golly Jim! Thank you so much for a wonderful time and lunch too. You are the man!!”
Nicole: “We had a wonderful time! Thank you!”
Michael: “What a wonderful experience. Thank you Nicole for an unexpected birthday gift and to Capitan Jim for safely bringing us back to the ground.”

A BIG thank you to today’s Crew (I can’t get in the air or back on the ground without’um)
Cecil, Tim & paxs Robert and Michael
